In PR- und Marketing-Berufen werden Menschen benötigt, die professionelle Kommunikatoren sind. Egal, ob Sie als Marketingmitarbeiter die Marke des Unternehmens kreieren oder sich als Public-Relations-(PR)-Mitarbeiter um den Ruf des Unternehmens kümmern – der Berufsalltag dreht sich um Kommunikation.

Die PR-Abteilung ist der Kanal für den Informationsaustausch zwischen der Bank und den Medien. Wenn Journalisten über irgendetwas Bescheid wissen wollen, angefangen von den neuesten Forschungsberichten bis hin zu Börsengängen oder wichtigen Personalentscheidungen: Die erste Anlaufstelle für Journalisten sind üblicherweise die PR-Mitarbeiter.

Große Finanzinstitutionen beschäftigen normalerweise einen Head of Global PR mit Sitz in der Hauptverwaltung sowie andere PR-Manager und PR-Assistenten in mehreren wichtigen regionalen Niederlassungen. Manche PR-Mitarbeiter haben einen festen Aufgabenbereich für einen bestimmten Teil der Firma, z. B. für ihre Privatbank. Ehemalige Journalisten sowie Berufs-PR-Mitarbeiter füllen diese Positionen.

Obwohl Banken generell Mitarbeiter für ihre eigenen PR-Stellen einstellen, lagern diese Firmen manche Aufgaben an PR-Agenturen aus. Diese PR-Stellen betreuen normalerweise spezifische Kampagnen oder Spezialaufträge (z. B. Employer Branding). Gleichermaßen stellen PR-Agenturen spezialisierte Public-Relations-Mitarbeiter ein, die Informationen über bedeutsame finanzielle Ereignisse wie Fusionen und Übernahmen und Börsengänge behandeln.

Wie im PR-Bereich befassen sich Marketingmitarbeiter ebenfalls damit, wie die Unternehmen von der Außenwelt gesehen werden. Marketing-Berufe konzentrieren sich nicht auf die Medien, sondern auf die Darstellung des Images eines Finanzdienstleisters an bestehende und potenzielle Kunden.

Bei vielen Investmentbanken erstellen firmeninterne Kommunikationsexperten auch Unternehmensmagazine, betreiben Intranet-Sites und organisieren Corporate Events.

In Investor Relations bekleiden Mitarbeiter eine weitaus förmlichere Funktion, in der sie Informationen über die geschäftliche Entwicklung eines Unternehmens an bestehende und potenzielle Aktionäre weitergeben. Investor Relations Mitarbeiter sind „Mittelsmänner“, die Anfragen von Aktionären, Investoren und anderen Personen betreuen, die an den Aktien oder der finanziellen Stabilität eines Unternehmens interessiert sind.

Bei einer Laufbahn im Bereich Investor Relations geht es im Prinzip um strategisches Management, das Expertise in den Bereichen Kommunikation, Finanzen, Marketing und Wertpapierhandelsgesetz-Compliance umfasst. Das Ziel ist, die Kommunikation zwischen dem Unternehmen und den Finanzmärkten zu fördern, was dazu führen soll, dass ihre Wertpapiere eine faire Bewertung erhalten.

Das Berufsbild Investor Relations ist vielfältig und umfasst die Arbeit bei Fundraising-Roadshows, um das Publikum über die internen Arbeitsprozesse des Unternehmens zu informieren. Investor Relations-Mitarbeiter sind auch bei Pressekonferenzen, Aktionärsversammlungen und privaten Besprechungen mit Investoren zugegen.

Jahresberichte von Unternehmen und die Investor Relations-Bereiche auf Unternehmenswebsites fallen ebenfalls in ihr Aufgabenfeld und sie leiten Informationen über Corporate Governance und soziale Verantwortung von Unternehmen weiter.

Die Investor Relations-Abteilung untersteht generell dem Chief Financial Officer oder Treasurer, obwohl die Funktion in manchen Firmen dem PR-Team untersteht.
